Spalding Town Board is committed to developing a robust plan for Spalding that will set out a clear vision for the town, focus investment, and deliver projects that will make a tangible difference.
That was the message at the first Spalding Town Board meeting of 2025 with the Board agreeing the next steps for their work, in line with the requirements of government.
The meeting came after the timescales were updated following the government’s announcement in October 2024 that the funding – previously known as Long Term Plan for Towns – would be retained. £20M funding is set to be invested in Spalding over a 10 year period, beginning from 2026.
This year, the Board will be working with specialist experts to create a plan that meets the needs of the town, reflects community aspirations, and brings long-term benefits for Spalding.
An important aspect of the Board’s approach will be engagement, and making sure that local people are involved in the process. The findings from the consultation carried out in summer 2024, together with evidence and information about the town, will form the basis for the creation of the new plan.
Robin Hancox, Chair, Spalding Town Board said: “The Board is committed to working together for Spalding. We want to see our town thrive, now and long into the future.
“This year, the Board’s priority is developing a meaningful and strong plan for our town which will allow us to maximise the funding and target it where it can make an impact.
“With clarity from government about the new timescales, and with significant work carried out by the Board in 2024, we are in an excellent position to move forward with refining this important plan for the town.
“The £20M funding represents a huge opportunity for Spalding, and the Board will work diligently to ensure that it is invested well in our town. We look forward to sharing an update on the plan in due course.”
Councillor Nick Worth, leader of South Holland District Council, said: “I know we are all keen for this significant project for Spalding town centre to get started, and whilst we await the funding it is important for the Town Board to do all it can to plan for its arrival, so we can hit the road running in 2026.
“We know many of the challenges and opportunities Spalding faces, along with towns across the country, but with a clear strategy and considering the wider changes taking place in town centre usage, we can ensure this funding can have the maximum possible benefit.
“Working together alongside initiatives like Spalding BID, the Levelling Up Fund project and Spalding Reconnected we can make a real difference to the town, and attract more people here to sustain and build upon what we already have.”
Sir John Hayes, MP for South Holland and The Deepings said: “The Town Board is doing important work to make sure that the significant investment in our area nurtures and nourishes local quality of life.”
