Details of multi-million pound funding previously announced for Spalding have been confirmed, with Spalding Town Board and South Holland District Council welcoming the guidance.
In the October 2024 budget, the government confirmed that the Long Term Plan for towns funding – announced under the previous government – would be retained and reformed into a new regeneration programme.
Now, details of the new programme – the Plan for Neighbourhoods – have been released by the government.
The programme focuses on three goals – thriving places, stronger communities, and taking back control – and areas will be driving forward their own priorities. A key aspect of the approach will be community engagement and collaboration.
Spalding Town Board and South Holland District Council will develop a Regeneration Plan, which sets out a vision for the funding, and a four year investment plan, building on the work that has taken place to date and shaped by community feedback.
Programme delivery funding will begin from 2026, with the funding allocation for the first year set to be lower than in subsequent years.
Robin Hancox, Chair, Spalding Town Board said: “It is great that we now have clarity from the government on the new Plan for Neighbourhoods programme and what it means for the town.
“We have been keen to move forward with our work for Spalding. In line with the criteria set by the government, we will build on the extensive work we have carried out so far over the last year and develop the Regeneration Plan and Investment Plan for Spalding.
“Working with the community is vital, and we will continue to engage and involve local people, following on from our consultation in 2024 that gave us such invaluable insight into people’s views and aspirations for the town.
“We look forward to the delivery beginning from 2026, within the funding parameters, and it gathering pace in the subsequent years.
“The Plan for Neighbourhoods represents a fantastic opportunity to bring improvements for our community, and the Board is committed to ensuring this funding makes a difference and impact for Spalding.”
Cllr Nick Worth, Leader of South Holland District Council said: “I’m delighted we have now received this confirmation from the government that brings this significant project one step closer to getting underway, and that allows the Town Board to continue its preparations to ensure the money can start to make a real difference as soon as it arrives.
“We are fortunate to have some fantastic funding, projects and initiatives happening or coming soon in Spalding and working together, and with a clear plan and strategy, I am confident they can protect, promote and improve the town and its offer for our residents, businesses and visitors, now and for many years to come.”
